Decided to get a jump start on my pitiful little outdoor garden for next spring. Usually plant a few peppers of different kinds, squash, tomatoes, etc.
Nothing major, just a small patch near where my clothesline is out there ( clothes just smell so much better when dried out there, sheets especially.)
It's not but abut five feet x 15 at the most, partial shade. I usually just till in a little cotten seed hull mulch, but today dug in a bag full of oak leaves, cotten seed mulch, a few handfuls of cotten seed meal ( good nutes,) and a small bag of perlite. gonna let it sit here and ferment over the winter. oh. also a fifty pound bag of seed n' feed store topsoil. looks good and the leaves will break down enough over the winter and then on through next year.
i have a spot under the hill out back next o a fence that collects alll these old leaves and detritus from the yard. been sitting there getting funkier by the year. worms and black dirt. good stuff. saving it for hard times. old saying around here is of the worms like it, its safe and good for plants too. the earthworms down there are mighty healthy, sitting in the shade in all that high powered dirt. ;P gonna come in handy one day, several cubic yards of it...
