Very interesting what Barry Cooper is doing now. Exposing crooked cops and all the bullshit they put into search warrants....

The actual story and links. (http://rawstory.com/news/2008/Excop_Barry_Cooper_launches_Kop_Busters_1206.html)

http://rawstory.com/images/new/barrycooperismyhero.jpgBarry Cooper, a former Texas police officer with eight years of specialty in drug interdiction, first made waves when he released the film "Never Get Busted Again," a how-to guide for evading police drug seizures.

Austin, Texas-based Cooper's latest project is not nearly so benign, and will likely generate for the former drug warrior an army of enemies in law enforcement.

'KopBusters' is a reality TV program that aims to sink crooked officers.

"KopBusters rented a house in Odessa, Texas and began growing two small Christmas trees under a grow light similar to those used for growing marijuana," claims a release from NeverGetBusted.com (http://nevergetbusted.com/v2/node/176) "When faced with a suspected marijuana grow, the police usually use illegal FLIR cameras and/or lie on the search warrant affidavit claiming they have probable cause to raid the house. Instead of conducting a proper investigation which usually leads to no probable cause, the Kops lie on the affidavit claiming a confidential informant saw the plants and/or the police could smell marijuana coming from the suspected house."

"The trap was set and less than 24 hours later, the Odessa narcotics unit raided the house only to find KopBuster's attorney waiting under a system of complex gadgetry and spy cameras that streamed online to the KopBuster's secret mobile office nearby.

"The attorney was handcuffed and later released when eleven KopBuster detectives arrived with the media in tow to question the illegal raid. The police refused to give KopBusters the search warrant affidavit which is suspected to contain the lies regarding the probable cause.

"It is not illegal to grow plants under a light in your home but it is illegal to lie on an affidavit and plant drugs on a citizen. This operation was the first of its kind in the history of America. Police sometimes have other police investigating their crimes but the American court system has never dealt with a group of citizens stinging the police. Will the police file charges on the team who took down the corrupt cops? We will keep you posted."

Cooper's "Never Get Busted Again" was a runaway success, the sales of which serve as financial support for this most recent project.

"The drug war is a failed policy and the legal side effects on the families are worse than the drugs," Cooper said to the Dallas Observer (http://www.dallasobserver.com/Issues/2007-02-01/news/feature_full.html) in early 2007. "I was so wrong in the things I did back then. I ruined lives."

The 'Kop Busters' sting was the feature of a CBS 7 report, aired Dec. 4, 2008.

A follow-up with raw footage from 'KopBusters' first sting has been posted here (http://rawstory.com/news/2008/Raw_footage_from_KopBusters_first_sting_1207.html) .

Its Texas, Tom. And like we all know, most of it is "business", its all about the money. Money for the prison system and local law enforcement.

Yeah well that's not even subtle. You mean to tell me a judge wouldn't have asked questions about how they discovered the grow in less than 24 hours time, that reeks of shadiness.

the judge is probably used to them setting people up and more than likely didnt think anything more of the situation because of so...

The legal system in my town is a bunch of 2 bit no good people...My partners house was broken into and bugged by a cop one time before we started growing together...He came home from the shooting range and a out of uniform cop was coming out of one of his windows backwards so he shot him in the ass with birdshot.
Cop was then later fired for it...

LOL try that here skunk, turn on a recorder while the police are arresting you. I'm sure we are allowed too, but watch how they react LOL, guaranteed you won't leave with anything on that recorder. The intimidation I have experienced in my area is just that. intimidating thugs, you know like the guys that popped my trunk without permission....they got away with it too.

I dont see how they could bust the house in 24 hours. I am sure there are many pot grows in texas much larger than thier xmas tree grow. They most likley tiped off the cops about for the shows hype and ratings. The cops still conducted an illegal search so they are still in they wrong, it just seems a little hokey if you ask me.This guy got rich I am sure, off the never get busted DVD's. He just looking to exploite the shity justice system to make a buck. Now is this a bad thing......I dont know

Interesting problem. I have lots of LEO contact in my job as an activist. We film every contact. Cops don't like it and they will try and make up laws about why you can't film, but we just tell them over and over that our attorneys insist we videotape our police contacts and eventually they shut up about it.

Cops have made cameras disappear 2 times out of maybe 100 situations. But both of those situations were caught on tape by other cameras though. After lawsuits and ACLU involvement we got money from both departments. It is indescribable the amount of police lying that takes place and is proven out by videotaping encounters. I highly recommend it. Puts you in the driver's seat for a change. In even the most benign situation, cops will write their report to make themselves look good even if it means "fudging" the facts a bit.

Video is a big hammer to wield though. I've had other situations in my personal life where a cop will let me go with a warning for speeding or something minor like that and I know if I had whipped out a camera he would have written me all the tickets he could think of. You have to be smart about it.

My guess is they got all the players together and they didn't want to keep the lawyers and everyone on their team in the house for a month twiddling their thumbs so they goaded the cops a bit to get an immediate response.

I took the whole point of it was to show that cops lie on the search warrant affidavits...nothing more. Which they proved beyond a doubt.
