This thing has been sitting in the ally for 3 days, staring me down.
I'll see what I can do with this thing just for fun.
Its a wide body, both sides are removable, although I need to remove some rivets to get rid of that mounting plate.
Should I bother using this muffin fan ?? Its 12v, I don't really want to use the transformer. Seems like I can get a stronger 120v muffin, I'll need 2, the lights will be air-cooled.
Got ideas, suggestions, post'em up.

Interesting. Are you going to go all the way and try a grow in there? If you're serious then I'd go and get the 120v fan.

what are you going to use for lights, i would think cfl`s or is big enough for t5`s
if its the comp fan you plan on using just pwer it with a regular 12 volt cell charger with the same milli amps.

Yeah, he could do that, only thing is thats like a 40 or 60 mm fan, its tiny. Hardly enough to vent the box sufficiently with even CFLs. In my current veg box which is 13 inches by 15 inches by 15 inches takes a 8 inch 120v fan to keep the residual heat down to a minimum.

i hate those things myself. i just thought thats what he planed on using because of being in the picture.
they aren`t to bad to help blow air slightly but for draw, not enough

We'll get a bigger fan, but the little one might be good for something, won't chuck-it yet.
There's a local electronic parts store.

Opened it up to maximize space, needs some hammering to flatten the metal.

But, as far as pc fans working out goes, i have three fans running off the same cell phone adapter. The load from the fans is about 1 milliamp. But tha charger is .5 so, they arent going as fast as possible, but definatly fast enough, i use one 120mm intake, one 8O and 90 mm outtake on the top of a four foot, by two and a half by four foot box. And no matter how many lights are in there it stays cool, my oom, is a different sstory http://www.skunkskool.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif

Seedlings, great idea, for new strains.

these are 100% sativa burmese.
i did a similar test. i cloned these then as soon as i had roots i transplanted then about 5 days in i went 12/12.
got about a 10 to 12 inch plant with a cola from the soil all tyhe way to the top and was about 10 g`s dry.
the mighty mite may be a good choice for this. it is what my dutch treat are crossed with. they are suposed to be one of the quickest flowering and a squaty plant.
i may be able to donate some of my dutch treat seeds for the test. i love these experiments.

Maybe to kick it up a notch you could find something like an old speaker box that is the same dimensions as your pc case. I'm just looking at this old subwoofer unit for my surround sound that doesn't work anymore and getting some ideas. It slightly larger than a standard pc case. Just sit the pc case on top of the speaker like someone would typically do. Cut out the top of the speaker box, bottom of the pc case and attach them together somehow that is lightproof. Double your space. Are you going for stealth or just midgitized plants?

IDK, I want to put a double pane plexi glass between the lights and the plants, the MH is too hot to get the plexi real close. Need to cut the bottom of a beaker off and put the 100MH in it, what about a glass element from a small kerosene lantern.
I'll try one with CFLs, I taking one apart, saw something on RIP about it a long time ago, I won't go back there, Mared what's my last activity date over there??

lookin great so far
the CFL ballasts can be removed, but it is a pain.... i tore one of mine apart when the bulb died (4 years, yeah right) because with all my bulbs you know those ballasts add up... and i promptly determined that it was FAR too much trouble.
i have also used plexiglass as a shield.... this has upsides and downsides.
the downside is that the buds STILL get cooked when they hit the plexi.
the upside is that it allows you to put an exhaust between the plexi and the reflector and suck a lot of that heat out.
which brings us right back to the MH.... man, get a hurricane candle and use the glass as a cool tube! the MH will SO out perform the CFL's it aint funny! and if you take some vacuum cleaner hose and some duck tape you can take the majority of that heat right out of the grow with a simple little PC fan http://www.skunkskool.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif
you sir, get some really great results with CFL, but you gotta admit, yer HID stuff is much more impressive.
i KNOW you can make a decent little CFL box, but i think you would do the micro community a lot more good by showing how to put a small HID in there and growing some dense buds in a PC case... i think if anybody can do this it is you. (i have also seen it done before)
if you arent up for it, send me the MH and i will make a micro grow out of it and document it for progeny http://www.skunkskool.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif (your skills are better and so is your camera, i hope you rise to the challenge rather than passing it to me)

You talked me into, damn it bfq, but when your right your right.

I don't mind doing to CFLs like this,
I'm into R/C sailplanes This is my "Gentle Lady" a classic and timeless design,2 meter 24oz flying weight, the box it comes in is 5in X 3in X 36in, 60 hour build time.

I want to see how hot the tube gets when its not near the ballast.
definitely interested in seeing how much heat is from the ballast as opposed to the bulb... maybe make that a thread in the LID forum?

I originally left them in there so that I could leave the pc case functional looking and all.....
I took them out and covered them up with cardboard there from the inside...Now Im thinking of sticking it in the shed and flowering some cuttings in there...
I got a couple motors like that one that tetra has shown there but Ive got no fan blades for it and attempting to make one didnt work so well:(
so I set it back up with the pc fans like I had it b4...got one for intake and one for outtake of air..
figured Id set it up with 3 30watt cfls in there and it should be good to flower a few in.

Tore the CD drive door off the drive, same with the floppy and buttons, the hot glue is good for filling the gaps, then the black paint to cover the (clear)hot glue.
Hot glue guns are cheap, very handy, I built boats(custom) for a few years, we'd HG a lot of stuff together before we glassed it up. It doesn't rot, rust, break down, fills gaps, sticks to all sorts of things, removable, waterproof, cheap, fast, easy, and pretty strong. You sold yet ??

I want to make something squaty for the root zone, bonsai trees grow in those shallow dishes, I was thinking a plastic basket, there's all kinds at the 99 cent store, in a tray, with hydrotron, rockwool blocks cut so the grain runs horizontally, rockwool sugar cubes, perlite, coco. those are the choices. I have net pots (5.5in) that could be cut down.Drip might work in there.I have a small powerhead pump to use for whatever.
It would be funny to have a printer rez. I'll keep an eye out for one, a big flat-bed would be good, one that doesn't have a big opening in the front.
The wire will be redone, just wanted to make sure it works, gotta tear it down.
Need a reflector of some type and a ScrOG screen too, two plants ?? It could go anywhere from 1-6.
Only thing purchased so far was the glass, had all the other bits and pieces.
i would do one plant under a ScrOG in there... what i use for my screens is a frame work that i wrapped phone wire around in a checkerboard pattern... yes, i am *that* ghetto http://www.skunkskool.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif

Commonly hot glue melts at around 192f to 203f(78c-88c) Which is really hot. I think the running temp pf a 100 watt MH is about 150. So, it may become a little soft, but it should retain most of its strength as a thermoplastic adhesive.
And yeah there are different colored ones, but they dont really make a difference in what it is. Its just different copolymers i suppose.
From Wiki:
"A common material for the glue sticks (e.g. the light amber colored Thermogrip GS51, GS52, and GS53) is ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) copolymer.[1] The vinyl acetate monomer content is about 18–29 percent by weight of the polymer. Various additives are usually present, e.g. a tackifying resin and wax. Other base materials may be based on polyethylene, polypropylene, polyamide, or polyester, or various copolymers."

however... i have worked with hot glue for many years and worked with closed hot spaces like cars in Florida... while it wasnt even 100 F outside the car, the hot glue (and even polystyrene http://www.skunkskool.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif ) has melted before.
you would not believe just how hot a micro-grow can get either!
i am also a big fan of stress testing my ghetto engineering... better to have it fail in a controlled environment than some weekend while you are out of town.
it *should* be ok... but find out for sure http://www.skunkskool.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif

Think its going to melt bfq ?? This is my big CFL reflector.[/b]
The hot glue is only on the chassis, the lamp unit is all metal except for the muffin fan, all the pieces lock together, the sq. piece w/ a hole can't fit past the rolled edge of the cookie can, the collar is a perfect fit, then the screws bring everything together at once.
If you had a plasma cutter it would be like cutting butter.
THX, for the compliments, everyone.
You can light a cig. on a HID bulb, some guy over at RIP did. He was going to stick his face up to it,smart, I told him to use a piece of tubing.
You don't want to put anything on the bulb, it could cause it to break(thermal shook)

I would think the glue would be fine but in case not you know what I would put on there. You still have that JB Weld? Good to 1200 degrees. Non-conductor. Only thing is you would never be able to get that bulb off of there LOL

Been a while, this thing is not a priority, about got it now, some fine tuning and finish work to go.
The hard-wired timer runs the exhaust fan.
A more powerful muffin for the light cooler would be good.
The lamp unit is held together with screws only, compression fit, the flange can't go past the rolled end of the cookie can. The glass element is a perfect fit in the cookie can.

Thought you were B/Sing about the $600.
Looked them up, what a rip.
$$$$ (http://www.sunlightsheds.com/pc-planter.htm)
You could almost buy one of THESE (http://www.jackstoolshed.zoovy.com/product/10355?meta=FRG&utm_source=GBASE&utm_medium=CPC&utm_content=&utm_campaign=)
and make one for the same $$, if you sold a few of them it would more than pay for the plasma cutter.
