What size do you all use? I just ordered some 5 gal bags thinking that 3 gal might be too small.

damn.
5 gallons are big ass bags dude. You growing outdoor or indoors this next run?
5 gallon bags are ok I guess, just take lotsa dirt....LOTSA dirt.
I use biggest as 2 gallons for indoors and thats pretty large, my big plants are currently in gallon sized bags and are about 3 foot tall...
and I only have to water every 3 days....

They're for indoors. Grow space is 3x3. Fuck, if they're that big maybe I can fold the rims down some.

I used the three gallon grow bags with about 3/4 full with soil for my seedlings but they were difficult for me to move and dried out slowly so I transplanted my seedlings into one gallon bags. When my plants are bigger I will clone a few plants and two of the clones will be going into the three gallon grow bags to be made mothers. I am using solid black grow bags, Iv seen the the white/black ones but the solid black ones are all the hydro shop closest to me carries.

so prob still 1/2 gallon of soil afterall then...
IMO if you fill the 1/2 gallon all t he way up with soil its harder to water them without the water running out everywhere....
Probably better the way you do it:)

Yup i'm on the 1 gallon ones myself, easy to fit alot close together, I fill mine nearly full of soil then i often add a 1" layer of hydroton. It really makes watering easier and it forces the soil to dry more evenly so i get roots nearly running along the surface of the soil. Highly recommended technique if using the bags.

I use two gallons. With coco, I have plants that are over 6 feet tall in those bags no problem. I do have the bags almost all the way full though. Just an inch of plastic at the top to hold the water in. You could get three gallons and fold them down but to fill them completely is unnecessary indoors.

Ok so I just received my grow bags from Mr. UPS man but I'm a bit puzzled.
Why are the drain holes on the sides of the bag and not the bottom? WTF.

Couldn't tell ya, mine have holes in the sides and the bottom. They seem to drain quickly and much of my water runs off quickly, Thats why i let em sit in a tote when i water em so i can let them sit for afew minutes and soak up the runoff. Can't see how that would be possible without holes in the bottom.

mine dont have holes in the bottom of them...
I think they put them in the side to make it a pain in the ass to water. LOL
seemingly when you first fill the bags all the water just wants to run out of the sides until the soil gets good n packed in there.....
1 gal bags for me. Saves alot of space usiing the smaller ones. A friend sent me a box of bags a while back. Ive only used the ones I started with. No need to replace after the chop. An overnight soak in hot water diluted bleach solution cleans them just fine.
They're all I use when doing a soil run.

mine are ragged looking. Have used them a good many of plants consecutively though.
Im a lazy ass and just dumped the soil out in the compost tray and got some good compost out and stuffed it right in and planted a clone...Never has hurt me before.

ques it's just personal preference really as to what to use. ive seen pro and con both and while I've been tempted to try bags, my indoor deal is so small that I may as well stick with the large plastic folgers cans and the maybe-it's-a-gallon-or-so cheap plastic pots. i do have some three and five gallon pots out in the utility house but really don't need them at the moment.. but come springtime...:p

Go with the three gallon bags and you should be fine. I didn't bond with them things at all tho because as the plant got bigger in the flowering room it would always lean the bag with the plant weight. I netted for support and true it helped but after serious consideration for saving floor real estate I ditched them and went back to my 3 gallon square drip pots. Seemed cleaner too. Hey they just didnt work for me but theyre sellin so they are working for some of you guy's. Peace :Ying Yang:

These didn't like the 3 gal growbags in the end. Maybe I could have taken more time with them to figure a different placement for em but I just didn't have the time to give. Enjoy and once again it just didn't work for ME.
Peace :)
