RIU SPAM

Hey all,

I think that it is a bad idea to spam RIU with personal or public adverts for this site.

One of the major problems that I had with RIU is that we were not being allowed to discuss what we wanted, when we wanted. Specifically, we were being censored and penalized for discussing SkunkSkool.

The problem was essentially that we should have been allowed to decide for ourselves - free of outside influence - which site we liked best, and choose accordingly. In addition, we should be able to do so free of the politicking and bullshit that apparently exists as animosity between the members of the two sites.

I personally think that we should just take the higher road, squash this shit, and let it move on as a matter of course. This means not posting garbage like the post below I just saw in a thread on RIU from a user "Skunkskoolinsession":

I've got to say that I agree with you wholeheartedly. CONTINUING to spam RIU is a bad idea. It's pretty childish and would just be overkill at this point. However I can't ignore the fact that had it not been for the hidden posts I wouldn't have found everyone after my hiatus. I roll back to the forum after 3 or 4 months and suddenly it seems less active, knowledgeable, and warm. I'm really greatful to SKH for the post or else I would have thought everyone dropped off the face of the earth. so yeah.. the info is out over there now and people can come when they see it..

I'm not saying anything should be censored. What I'm saying is that I don't think it's in the spirit of starting a new site to attempt to suck the life out of the old one. The idea would be to just make the site and the people that inhabit it better so that people come. Imagine the two sites actually collaborating or working independently free of conflict? My understanding from talking with SKH is that SS seeks that ideal, if it were ever possible.

Messaging about SS in the middle of people's threads on RIU is just destructive, petty, and fucking rude. Period. It also misrepresents the other members of SS who are content to enjoy their site, rather than cannibalize members en masse.

I don't even have a problem with people PMing each other to mention the other site. That is how I learned of SS. It's just the broadcast message of "RIU SUCKS! COME TO SS!" that I have a problem with.

And yes, I understand the grieving over RIU. If you see my intro post "Visiting from China..." you would understand that I get that. The difference is that I'm HERE doing it, not THERE.

I think a lot of people are hurt/betrayed by the way they are/were being treated over there. In some ways it kinda like being dissed by a good friend/family member; there for they wanna vent.

the point being the sites would cooperate and users could post on either (or neither or any combination) as they please (still can - but without, apparently, the site cooperation).

ceestyle thats my opinion too. Ive let everyone know thats asked me but I aint going out of my way to blast the url to people. My friends email will do fine and if they like it their frinds will be emailed a link too, it dosent take long for the word to get out about the good things:)

After i installed them i couldn't even find them on the board. thebigbad found them before i did, and clicked it out of curiosity, awarding himself a medal. I have no way of turning them on or off without deleting the whole thing, so i'll need to edit them and figure out exactly what they do while they are still live. i think email you should be able to go into your profile options, your biography section and edit the medal out there. I just used you as a test subject and it was getting late. Now i've also got a couple of hours out as i got to do some running around to do.

most of us here have issues with riu himself, but this shouldn't reflect on the members there... nor the mod's either imo.

i did notice that on RIU whni was there thateven if you are band you can still rep+ someone and leave a statment. i rep+ a few friend with the skunk skool URL.

ROLLITUP is not checking the rep system. so there's a little loop hole to get hold of friends.

yeah, i found that while looking for a rep system... but for the rep system i want it's going to be around another week before release.... it's the follow up version to the last rep we had installed, made by the same guys... and as rep systems are very thin on the ground for ip 2.3+ I feel it's best to wait rather than installing a second rate system that doesn't work properly.

While I have not ceased participation on RIU by any stretch, I must say that this is not at all my own issue with what's happened and is happening there.

My own issue is with the fact that someone who takes money to run the site, posts not a thing about his own use or growing of pot, then goes on to use a hack that its own developers also issued a required disclosure for (and RIU has yet to offer up what I could call a full disclosure, it's really only hinted at), and possibly another that targets "misbehaving users", including those who "donate" money to this endeavor. I have an issue with these things, because never for one minute did I join that site thinking that the site admin was, in any way, my "friend", but I did expect him to be stand-up, open, non-censoring, and have a different standard as someone who takes money from others to run the site (I forgot to mention he doesn't seem to communicate with his moderators).

But, it gets better.
Then he goes on to issue new rules about censorship of language, images, pornography, and in his own thread announcing these new rules, when someone else mentions they run an adults only site, he says that he has some "projects" that they might be able to merge together. This gets me to my POINT, which is that the guy running the site itself, the guy who owns the domain, the guy who is the only known site administrator, isn't doing this because he wants so much for people to learn to grow, grow well, grow honestly, grow for medicine, be aware of legislation--NONE OF THAT is his motivation. He is the "Bum Fights" guy. He is the "Girls Gone Wild" guy.

But, even in light of this, there is a community, and within that community there are tiny little sub-communities. And they're often comprised of some pretty nice, cool, interesting, kind, knowledgeable people. So, that's why I continue to use the site. Hopefully the changes that have been made won't kill it.

If only I didn't have the viewing issues with this place that I do (though I have noticed some changes, and didn't get taken over when I mistakenly clicked someone's naked woman attachment). Still have an issue with the word wrapping (or whatever it is) and the contrast of font/text/color against its background. the only thing with adding a new skin is all the modifications you'd miss at first, and indeed it's doubtful i would be able to get them all on in any quick time... but if you're happy just to be able to see the board for a while i'll try and find a good skin that fits the bill. I'll start looking in a moment.

I have tried to look for the settings to these things but i can't seem to find anything to change. so i think a new skin is the best bet atm.

I also agree with your analysis on rollitups behaviour... it seems he has just done it for the fun of it... no real passion about it at all. thanks for your input. although i have had enough of slating his name now, most people that come into contact with him for any length of time must realise he's an asshole... so i feel i don't need to say any more than that. there are just too many of us in agreement for it not to be true.

I tried to tell Rollitup to get a few more trustworthy mods to help him with the spam and bogus IDs/Threads but he acted like I was full of shit.

The way I see it (the short time I have been there) the advice that is given out is by newbies. Rollitup and the other mods don't bother to reply to anything unless it is to do what he did last week. The best advice I got was from people like you SeaMaiden. The growFaq page was ok but most of it was cut and paste from other links that I found by Googling. Anybody can do that. Plus, if law enforcment comes knocking he'll rat you out in a second. That's really fucked up.

I'm still there reading and posting once or twice a day but I won't post any grows there.
