Has anyone cloned any fan leaves? Any noticeable differences? At the moment it is seeming to be the only way that i can recieve any clones from anyone in my area, and if it works i am going to make it a mother plant. I am practicing with a few thornless blackberry fan leaves right now, they are on the third day after cutting. I also have a piece i topped to see differences in growth if any at all. I cut the plant parts then put them in tap water then cut one inch up for a fresh cut and stripped 0.5 inch up and covered with gel and placed into rockwool cubes and then into starter tray. The reason i put them in water first then waited a bit before putting the gel on is becuase this is probably how i am going to recieve them.

Cloning Fan Leaves will do no good as NO NEW growth can come from a fan leaf Sorry man...

There is a chemical, may be giberrillic, but don't quote me, i'd need to double check, that will encourage new shoots from a fan leaf.
I tried this before, actually got the leaves to root and they just sat there... no grow. But i've recently heard about some success with this... and the guy used a chemical that he scratched into the leaf surface. Just watching UFC atm, back in a mo.

Yea i have used gibberellin (gillerellic acid) to self a plant. i know it causes elongation, but never heard or anyone scratching the surface of a fan leaf and getting new shoots.... if so and if possible are all genes carried through... would this be a true clone? if this was easily possible i could make many more clones... seems to me the plant would have sufferd allot of stress through the gibberellin and would hermie though..

i think if it were a possible practice then someone would have already gotten some productive results and we would have known about this by now but it cant hurt to try i guess.
If you want a clone that is sure to be successful just make a big topping on your plant and take 4 inches of stem and clone that.http://www.skunkskool.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif

There's an asian (think he's asian) guy over on riu... i'm sure he has a thread running about it. He sounded very plausible... I don't go over there myself anymore aside from to cadge links for my threads now and again, and this would have been around 2 months ago. I was having a debate with al b fuct at the time and this guy popped up... or i was directed to his thread in some way. Once it comes to chemicals though, i'm out... aside from nutrients i don't really want to mess with that stuff yet.. so i just gleened that it might actually be possible after all, and left it at that. The guy swears he does it all the time. I don't think he'd lie about it.

It may have been something like that actually... which would also explain the asian connection. Is that bad?

no, as far as I know he was proud of where he is from. If its that same guy anyways. I feel kinda bad for him, you know there cant be too many indoor growers over there in korea for him to associate with, trade a bud with, Hell for that matter there arent that many people he can share a doobie with.
He was a nice fellow last that I spoke with him.
You said nothing racist or anything of that nature just a general assumption that if he lives in korea, he is asian, I dont know any growers willing to move to korea so I would have assumed the same.
And the guy Im talking about has a pic of himself for an avatar so i am pretty sure that he is indeed asian.

OH, ok that makes a lot more sense now that I think about what you said, sorry I took that wrong.
It seems to me that its highly unlikely to be able to clone fan leaves. Im almost totally positive that if it were able to be done then there would already be a tutorial somewhere teaching us how to do so.
If there is someone doing this then I would love for them to make a tutorial showing us how anyways, that would give me tons more clones. lol

I did it a few times, actually rooted the leaves. I did it on riu around 18 months ago... but they didn't move or grow any shoots. I reasoned that even if it were possible to get shoots from the leaves that the time it takes to do so isn't worth the effort.
While you're here though, have you got access to riu? here's a link to some other guys thread, and he mentions a guy called Woo. Check out Woo on riu, that's the fella i was talking about.

I may and I may not if you know what I mean. http://www.skunkskool.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif http://www.skunkskool.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif Ill try to check out the thread though.
hmm it makes sense to me that if someone could get the leaves to grow shoots that it would take @ least 2times as long as it takes to clone the shoots directly.
unfortunatly the link that you just gave me took me too google uk.
I wonder why on you guys google, it says uk under google, and ours over here just says google (no Usa under the bottom or anything like that)

yeah, i just scanned the first post, and it's on the money. I was right about the giberrillic too. I think it would be better to use that than a weakened down rooting gel...

Read the thread... woo may be a 'pet' name or an abbreviation.

thanks skunk Im checking the thread out now.http://www.skunkskool.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif
I got offline to take care of my plants before i saw the link up.
the thread has made me believe that it MAY be possible. But only for the fact that they are attempting to ge new shoots to grow from the veins of the leaves, Otherwise I still think that no new shoots will come from the stem to a leaf forming roots.

I think i may have answered in that thread under a different handle... so, it reached the same conclusion i did then. Not worth doing... the amazing thing though, is that at least we know it can be done http://www.skunkskool.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif
