Marc Emery Extradition.....
So members of all three parties have signed a petition to block extradition...
NDP, Liberal, Conservative politicians petition to stop Marc Emery's extradition to the U.S.
By Carlito Pablo
MPs of three different political stripes are uniting to oppose sending Marc Emery (shown here with wife Jodie) to an American prison for selling marijuana seeds.
Members of Parliament from three parties—Conservative, Liberal, and New Democrat—are poised to present petitions with thousands of signatures seeking to stop the extradition to the U.S. of Canada’s Prince of Pot, Marc Emery.
The politicians are Conservative MP Scott Reid of Ontario, Vancouver South Liberal MP Ujjal Dosanjh, and Vancouver East NDP MP Libby Davies, the Georgia Straight has learned.
“That’s correct,” Reid’s aide Mike Firth confirmed by phone from Ottawa. “We haven’t arranged a day yet. We’re still trying to get a day when the three of them will be available at the same time.”
Last summer, Emery entered into a plea bargain with American authorities that will likely see him thrown in a U.S. jail for at least five years for distributing marijuana seeds.
The petitions ask Conservative justice minister and attorney general Rob Nicholson not to sign the extradition papers of the Vancouver-based cannabis activist.
In a phone interview, Jodie Emery, Marc Emery’s wife, related that she and her husband met Reid at a Liberty Summer Seminar organized by the Ontario-based Institute for Liberal Studies.
“Scott Reid was there one year, and we talked to him and he understands that prohibition is a bad idea,” she said.
Emery also recalled that Reid told them his wife once used marijuana when she was undergoing a series of medical treatments. “She doesn’t need it anymore, I don’t think,” she said. “He said it helps with the nausea. So I guess he’s willing to say that he thinks this [the extradition] is wrong too. There are a lot of Conservative party members who said they don’t like this happening.”
Reid wasn’t available for comment.
By Davies’s estimate, the offices of the three MPs have received petitions signed by about 12,000 people who are opposed to Emery’s extradition.
She confirmed that her office is communicating with Dosanjh’s and Reid’s offices to pin down a day when they will bring the petitions to the floor of the House of Commons.
“I’m very happy that we should try and do it on the same day,” Davies said by phone from Ottawa. “You can’t necessarily do it one after the other because the Speaker recognizes you not necessarily in the order you want.”
In a separate interview, Dosanjh said that presenting petitions in the House is one of the duties of MPs.
Said Dosanjh on the phone from Ottawa, “Members from three different parties are doing it—it’s really a nonpartisan issue.”
In an interview with the Straight in December, after he was released on bail from the North Fraser Pretrial Centre, Marc Emery said that American authorities are out to get him because of the significant work he has done on legalizing marijuana.
Emery cited a media statement issued by then–U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration head Karen Tandy following his arrest in 2005. The release stated that his arrest was “a significant blow not only to the marijuana trafficking trade in the U.S. and Canada, but also to the marijuana legalization movement”.

yeah let's hope the canadian Govt. grows some balls over this. This is more than about cannabis prohibition, it's about a Canadian citizen who's rights are being infringed. Canada would be crazy to back down from a political point of view too.

I respectfully disagree with this statement sparta.
He's not charged with cultivation but merely the selling of seeds, seeds that until germinated have no cannabinoid value whatsoever. Certainly shouldn't be illegal.
He may have dared the DEA to come after him, but he is a man of the people, one of us. They are them. Why should they control every aspect of our lives? somebody has to make a stand... the DEA are supposed to work for us. Instead they work for the highest bidder, while at the same time still taking a wage from our taxes.
emery is a soldier, in my opinion. Prepared to face the worst there is to face, of course he wants to fight till the end, that's what a soldier does.

GG i agree with the letter, or rather meat of what you have written. however, being that it is marc emory we are talking about..lol he has served no one other than himself.
he is one of the most arrogant sob's to ever represent the mj community. just a arrogant lil prick is what he comes off as.
he wanted to be SEEN and HEARD. not at all about the movement.
i dare say attitude has passed more beans across the border, and around the world than emory ever dreamed of. and no one is after them. why ? because they keep their friggin mouths SHUT, and their hands instead of their toungues busy greening the planet.
nothing less of a damn fool or a madman dares the dea and the u.s. government to fuck with him.
i admire the notion of what he does. i deplore the mockery he ensues doing it.

I know exactly what you mean sparta, yes he does deserve it because he asked for it so loudly... but the way I see it, if Emery goes down this will be a massive blow to our efforts.
The DEA are just doing this to prove a point, kinda like you got to do what we say.
they got an army, and us stoners mostly stand on our own. This is why they can pick us off one by one whenever they feel like it. They work for us, instead now it's like we are their slaves.
I came into this world with all the innocence and naivety of every child. I genuinely believed that we lived in a good world, and that good people were in control. Then i get older and I wake up to the fact that this world is controlled by morons. Greedy motherfuckers, where money is worth more than a human life. worth more than millions of human lives. we live in a world where a bank robber can hurt nobody, steal a million and get 30 years. Then some sick fuck rapes a little kid and gets probation, or a minimal sentence of just a few months. may be longer, but you get the point.
It's not like mankind even seems to be striving to get any better either. still making wars over resources we don't even really need. Emery is just another piece of the pie, another way for them to SHOW us who's in control. They have to SHOW that they are in control, because in reality they aren't in control of anything. We are, we pay their wages, we give the bankers their money, we're paying for the lengthy court costs in extraditing emery. they're supposed to represent us. Instead they represent the interests of those that take the most money from us. They don't give us anything, we give it to them.
So what if he's loud, we need guys like him. Guy's that are prepared to get mad, guys that will say FUCK YOU, right to their faces. Yeah, i can respect that. he has to whine about what's happening. that's part of the plan. Public Opinion needs to be in his favour if he is to fight this bullshit. They got a small army... so we shouldn't let our brother-in-arms stand on his own. It's not his own fault, he's taking this for all of us. If emery goes down, this then makes it OK to go out and kidnap every cultivator off the street, rob hem and the lock them up for a few years.
All three of our nations should be hitting the streets because of this... but we won't. we'll just continue hiding, hoping and maybe even praying that one day they don't come for us.
fuck that man... you know what i'm saying. it's like waiting around to die. if we all band together we could defeat this beast. People power like fucking Gandhi.

damn good post GG. i'll just have to agree with ALL of that one...lol you nailed it bro.
don't get me wrong, i hate to see the mother fucker get passed over here, because that means a defeat for ALL of us. and the lil bitch will actually be in my country then, and some of us don't want him here free or in jail....lol
you are right though, if they fuck him it just makes it easier for them to fuck the next one, which may be one of us. i agree 100 % on that.
if we could all get together and hit the streets at the same time and say hell no, we ain't having these bullshit laws, we could change them. but sadly as you say, most folks are scared of their governments, and hide in fear. and rightfully so. too much risk at the moment for the rewards at the moment, to put your neck on the chopping block, just to prove a point.
the tide is slowly turning though.

Well,,,,, I've known marc for a LONG time (long before he started smoking pot and embraced the cause) and he's always been the same. Confrontational in his political beliefs. And they are beliefs, he is, basically , an honest man. I personally find his whole "Prince of Pot" thing a bit much, shameless self-promotion really, but , having said that, this is really an issue of sovreignity . The DEA should not be able to enforce America's "War on Drugs" in Canada. We are still a seperate country, with our own laws and enforcement. I think that if Marc was convicted and sentenced for breaking Canadian laws and was doing his time here there would be NO question. He did, as has been said , ask for it. he's always been a bit of a martyr. But that's not what the situation is, he should IMHO NOT be extradited to the USA!
As much as I agree with your sentiment jimmy, I can almost guarantee you that the DEA won't give a crap about canadian sovereignty. Consider the precedent that's already set. We already rampage through south america, the carribean, mexico and now afghanistan looking for drugs. It's a sad and depressing history but don't underestimate the DEA's holy crusade.

Thats true.. I remember a few years ago during a very hot period a canadian reporter asked an american sen/congress..? what they do if canada wouldn't help in time of water crisis..(we have more water here in Quebec than all of europe, seas combined)...
he said.."we'll take it"..
There are some in our government that i'm embarrassed for....I would like to believe that we'd never let that happen but....given some people's blind "patriotism"...who knows.

It was probably hyperbole, but there is a disdain there for us in the US.
I guess we're lucky we're allies and soldiers dying to help you, or we'd really be hated..

well...the further south you go the more you run into the attitude "america is right, no matter what and every other country should be so lucky as to help us". On the other hand the closer you get to canada the more people joke about moving to canada should the govenment really get fucked up (like if palin were elected president)
I think this picture pretty much sums it up nicely
