I'm hoping the good folks here at the Skool can send my son, Santana Hearns, some positive energy and vibes.

We took him to the doctor yesterday for a cough and he was rushed to the hospital with RSV, Strep throat and pneumonia.

Thanks

Thank you ALL so much for the encouragement and good vibes and prayers, we truly appreciate you.

I'm not a doctor, but I do know when there is a communication problem, and that's worrisome when it comes to a 2 year old's health. When we arrived at the ER on Thursday, they went through what was found at the exam with our regular doctor, Dr. Fuji. She had diagnosed him with Strep throat and pneumonia based on a strep test and chest X-ray. My wife had read that kids under 3 don't usually get strep so she asks Dr. Fuji who smiles and says 'Yeah, they taught us that in college too. I've seen it in kids 9 month and up consistently.' Sounds like the voice of experience.

Let me tell ya the chest x-ray is shitty. put him on a bicycle seat in a hole in a table and then hold his arms over his head and strap a plastic shell around his body. When Santana is done eating, he says 'all done'. When they started strapping him in, he looked at me with fear and tears and said, 'all done, poppa? all done?' Breaks my heart.

Okay so, strep and pneumonia from the tests. The doctor at the ER is unaware that he has strep until we mention it.? They have to put on an oxygen strap and of course he's fighting it while I'm getting a handle on him. The fucking nurse, a guy, starts yelling at him "HEY, NO, HEY", so I had to check his ass on the spot bout ever raising his voice to my son who isn't yet 2 years old, and the doctor sent him outta the room.

They do a swab of his nose, deep, and this test says he has RSV, a respiratory virus. So now he has strep, pneumonia and RSV. They get him on oxygen, give him tylenol for the throat pain, motrin for his fever and amoxicillan antibiotics for the strep and pneumonia, to fight those beasties.

My wife sends me a text, whilst i was tending the garden, saying that he doesn't have pneumonia or strep but only RSV. Great news right? I suppose that depends.

I start thinking about the strep not being known on thursday in the ER until we mentioned it. I wonder, since the only test they did was for RSV, if they even knew about the chest X-ray.

So when I arrive, I ask the doctor to explain it to me first hand. He says that in the office setting kids are often misdiagnosed and talks very generally about the RSV epidemic every year, yada yada. So I tell him about the Strep test. he says it was a quick screen and that a lot of us are carriers of this so it would show up even if he didn't have it. and that kids under 3 don't get it. I say that's exactly, damn near verbatim, what we said to fuji and she said it was bullshit. I ask about the chest x-rays, he says that pneumonia looks like RSV to someone who is looking for a pneumonia in an xray. so I ask him, Dr. Fuji misdiagnosed him on 2 outta 3 items? He tells me that he wasn't diagnosed with RSV until arriving. So I ask him if he is basing this on the same information, tests that fuji did. Did he see the X rays first hand.

The reason, this makes a difference is he stopped the amoxycillen that treats the strep and pneumonia bugs. He says he didn't see the xray first hand, restates that the strep test was a 'quick screen'. I say why not be safe then sorry, the only pain he has is in his throat, treat the strep and pneumonia just in case. He says he could have adverse reactions if he's on it and doesn't need it. okay fair enough.

We have my sister in law and her family of 4 kids staying with us until the end of this month. She takes them into the doctor, and guess what STREP throat accross the board. Mom, 15 yr old, 12 yr old, 3 yr old and 2 yr old, all have it. We tell the doctor and he INSISTS that Santana doesn't have it? WTF?

He implies, Fuji went 0-2 on her diagnosis, he's right she's wrong and I'm not treating him for what she found despite the tests and xrays and EVERYONE in the house having strep?

I don't know, but the shit is stressing me out and I'm glad I have somewhere to vent.

Mrs. McGreggor, thanks so much, I was able to get the skool to come up on my phone while at the hospital last night and showed my wife your post. She welled up with tears and says thanks. And thank you for the reminder on the bunny. He has a little blue puppy he sleeps with every night and your reminder got it to the hospital yesterday to comfort him. Thanks and this lil pic is for you.

Just got a text from the wife, new doctor on attendance today, IMMEDIATELY put him back on the amoxycillen because he has OFFICIALLY been EXPOSED to STREP.

Just what I fuckin thought and felt. I know my boy and if he says it fuckin hurts it hurts and not for no reason.

Did the first doctor want my son to be sick longer to milk insurance? I hope not and it's shitty to even think that but, it is what crosses my mind.

if the needed a xray to find the pneumonia maybe they caught it early? usually docs or nurses can tell just with a stethoscope listening to breathing over the lungs.

good looking kid, cool name i wish him the best bro.

Thank you so much to everyone, we truly appreciate you all and your kind hearts.

Santana is home now so all is well.

He does have an oxygen tank and a horrible cough, but he's home and doing better, coming down the backside of the whole thing I believe.

We take him back to our Dr. Fuji tomorrow, who BTW, called twice to check on Santana when he was in and was also very concerned about taking him off the Amoxycillen.

Thanks again for the shoulder's to lean on

We are headed in at 11 am to see Dr. Fuji for the follow up visit. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they will take him off the oxygen. He wants to run and play sooooo bad and he's feeling so much better too. He still has a cough, but no more coughing fits where he's hacking away for minutes and can hardly breath, so Mamma's more at ease too.

Thanks again everyone, we appreciate the Skool

yeah, the doctor that basically said ver-fuckin-batim what my wife read from MD.com and mentioned to our Dr. Fuji, really opened my eyes. Someone on here mentioned looking up symptoms etc on the internet, I think this 'doctor' got his degree from an online course !

Santana...

:DA Bunny:<---well Im a web Reader...
says for RSV...
Treatment
Antibiotics do not help in the treatment of RSV. Mild infections go away without treatment. Infants and children with a severe RSV infection may be admitted to the hospital so they can receive oxygen, humidified air, and fluids by IV.
A breathing machine (ventilator) may be needed.
An antiviral drug, Ribavirin, is available, but is typically only used for serious, life-threatening RSV infections, and even then, its use is controversial.

{{ Ribavirin is used for Hep. C...}}

side effects of Ribavirin
Headache
Irritability and anxiety
Depression. Sometimes people taking ribavirin develop severe depression and can even have suicidal thoughts. These side effects, along with general irritability, are unofficially known as Riba Rage (http://hepatitis.about.com/od/questions/f/ribarage.htm), even though they're really caused by the interferon. For most people, these side effects can be controlled with antidepressants or other medicines. It's important to look for signs of behavioral change during treatment so your doctor can help control any developing depression as quickly as possible. For people with known psychiatric problems, it's possible your doctor will want to start you on a preventative therapy before you start treatment. Some people with severe depression or a history of suicidality (http://depression.about.com/cs/suicideprevent/a/suicide.htm) may not be able to start treatment of hepatitis C.
Alopecia (hair loss)
Itchiness
Insomnia (having trouble sleeping)
Myalgia (muscle pain)
Anorexia (loss of appetite)
Neutropenia. Neutropenia is a blood disorder caused by a loss of neutrophils, a type of white blood cell that destroys bacteria. Neutropenia is probably the result of decreased bone marrow function, which the combination therapy suppresses, and may mean your body will have trouble fighting off bacterial infections.
Nausea and vomiting
Fever
Chills
Fatigue (tiredness)

Now lets look at strep...
Treatment for Strep Throat

Antibiotics, such as penicillin or amoxicillin (http://drugsaz.about.com/od/drugs/amoxicillin.htm), are commonly used. Erythromycin (http://drugsaz.about.com/od/drugs/erythrocin.htm) may be used for patients who are allergic to penicillins. Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Motrin (ibuprofen) may be used to reduce fever and pain.
{in brief says will show improvement in 24 to 48 hours}

It amazes me to no end..
that a child said to have RSV Can have such a FAST turn for the better
with amoxicillin... a treatment KNOWN NOT TO help at all with RSV.
an that he could have faced treatment for HEP C. {in worst case senero}
had it been left UN CHECKED an NOT questioned By the partents whom know better
the enviorment in witch that child has been...

dr's are NOT god..
they just like to think they are..
an even GOD don't mind ya asking him questions...
THATS A GREAT WAY TO LEARN.
But Dr.s seem to have REAL issues when you question dem.

NEVER BE INTIMIDATED to speak from your heart
an QUESTION
that dosent mean be rude...
But a good rule of thumb is.
ONLY A FOOL will mind answeering a question
asked with love care kindness, an when incountering a fool
apeal to another more intelligent level...
an get another opinion one
THATS WILLING TO ANSWEER YOUR QUESTIONS AND CONCERNS>

He's doing much better thanks again to you all. In Dr. Fuji's office today his blood oxygen level stayed right at 95-97 without the oxygen. Fuji wants to be sure he is doing okay during naps and then we can take him off completely. He's off when he's awake. My wife asks, how can we tell how he's doing during naps to monitor it? She says there's really no way without the little machine they strap to his toe. She closes the door and lowers her voice. 'has he had his nap today?' 'no not yet' 'okay take this machine, don't let any of the nurses see it, home and put it on when he's napping and check on him every 30 minutes or so. If it stays above 90, he can come off of it entirely, if not he stays on during naps and over night. I get off at 6pm, that machine MUST be back here by then, okay?' 'Wow, okay'

So he's napping now, gonna go creep in and check the gauge.......92 and bouncing to 93! Good shit, I think we are gonna be alright!

Mrs. McGreggor, thanks so much for your kind heart, you are the shiznittlebamshiznit! We love you.

I asked Dr. Fuji about the dr at the ER and she said she was really concerned and called him twice to try to convince him to put him on the amoxicillen, but he was rigid, she said. She knew a new doctor would be on Saturday morning at 7am so she called, 7 am, and they decided to put him back on right away. I agree, I think he would have been turning the corner with or without the oxygen, while on the amoxicillen. I wouldn't say the oxygen hurt, it certainly helped but I don't see him getting this much better on the oxygen alone, period.

He also lied to the doctor taking over. My wife had told him at 4pm on Friday about the results from his cousins and aunt, all strep, to which he still said "I just don't think that's what's going on here". When the new doctor taking over asked him about it, he said he just got that information that morning. don't know what his motive was but he was wrong and he fuckin knew it. Hope he adjusts his ways for the sake of the children to follow. What a class A- prick.
